Scrappy Pink Finish

Not sure why I have not posted this already but I finished up the pink heart quilt for the twin bed. Actually I finished it several weeks ago. I kept thinking I would go take some sort of artsy, creative photos of it but really, a twin size quilt is a bit cumbersome to take outside and hang over a fence or tree branch. I settled for somewhat boring shots of it on the bed. Better than never recording the finish!

It is cozy, warm and very, very pink! Just what little girls need when spending the night at their grandparent’s house! Simple cross hatch across the heart and then minimal straight line quilting over the white portion did the trick. I am somewhat concerned I need more quilting over the white background and will add another set of double lines between the existing sets. Shouldn’t take any time at all to pop the walking foot on the machine and add a bit more stitching.

It looks puffy because it is! I wanted this to be super warm. The girls often wear nightgowns or little shorts and t-shirts to bed so I gave this quilt an extra layer. When I basted it, I had the batting (80/20) and then also added a layer to thin pink flannel between the batting and the dark pink backing. Not surprisingly, this added some heft to the quilt. I think it feels super cozy.

Here is the backing. I have a number of yards of this leftover from the shop so it felt great to use a large portion to back the quilt and to bind it as well. I prewashed it to prevent any color bleeding into the white portion from the front of the quilt. It shouldn’t be an issue.

Both of the heart quilts look sweet side by side in this guest room. These will keep the grand kids cozy for the next sleepover!! Enjoy the weekend everyone. We don’t have any plans so maybe a little sewing, a little exercise and some yard work. Sounds good to me!

Oh, I really like that the quilt has a bit of heft to it, that sounds super cozy. It looks fantastic on the bed (what better photoshoot is there, really?) and I’m sure it is going to be well loved. I look forward to hearing about the next sleepover!

Well we are having the whole family this weekend but when that happens the girls end up sleeping on mats on the floor. There will be nine people sleeping over (besides Ray and me) so that is a lot of beds! My son is coming out from Brooklyn with his wife – big family weekend!! Yahoo!

Bernie, the set of quilts looks so sweet together! I love your idea to add the flannel to the batting. Since I’m always cold, this seems like an ideal way to add warmth. I also like some heft to a quilt. Thanks for the inspiration!

The girls are going to love this! I have never thought of adding a flannel layer to add heft to a quilt, what a great idea! We’ll need to see photos of the two snuggled under their quilts, you know!

It worked out well – the flannel was a weird piece that I thrifted with the idea of using it inside a quilt. It was sort of thin and I knew it wouldn’t be good enough for quilt piecing. But to layer inside worked perfectly. Those curtains were such a find on Facebook Marketplace. I love them!

Such a sweet finish. . .I was looking for “I Luv U” in those long background strips because the heart reminded me of those Valentine’s heart candies with the little messages printed on them. My grand daughters also sleep in light pajamas in winter so I understand you adding an extra layer to your quilt. As a kid, I wore flannel nightgowns to bed that were long enough that I could curl my legs to my body and have fabric to wrap around myself! What a special grandma you are to have special quilts for your grandkids to use on an overnight!!

Oh my gosh – What a great idea to stitch some text on the background. Thank you! I am going to do that asap. 🙂

Love both quilts! I really like Terry’s idea of quilting words. Please tell us what you decide to “say” on the quilt.
    Enjoy having your family together!

Really sweet and beautiful! The bed display is just as it should be since that is where it will be enjoyed and snuggled. Funny, I find that for me the purples in it pull it more to that side visually than to the pink side so it reads to me more as a “purple with pink accents” quilt. Either way, your granddaughters will love it!.

These are both such sweet quilts, Bernie, and I know the girls already love them. I agree with the comments above, some words would be a great addition! Maybe a poem? (I love the floral pillowcase over there, too!) Hope you have had a lovely weekend!

That pillowcase is a favorite of mine. Janine (Quilts From the Little House) sent that fabric to me with a picture frame when H was born. So it seems perfect for a little pillow. Thinking about what to put on the quilt but yes, it is such a nice idea for that white space!

How sweet is this! Your bedroom is so welcoming to your sweet grand-daughters and I’m sure they feel the love of snuggling under Grandma’s quilts. It’s the perfect setting for beautiful dreams and making memories to last a lifetime!

I absolutely love that pink heart quilt for your granddaughters! I hope you do add some text to it. I have done my name and their name in embroidery on the ones I made for my grandkids. It adds another little layer of love!
