Villa Rosa Blog Hop

It is time for the second annual Villa Rosa Designs blog hop! When this got started last year, I was very happy to participate and this year is no different. For a little bit of background, Villa Rosa Designs is located in Grass Valley, CA. This, as you may or may not know, is where I lived for almost 30 years. The owner, Pat Fryer, is a creative force and her shop carries gorgeous fabrics. In addition, she has a HUGE number of postcard size patterns for sale. You may have seen these in your local quilt shops. They are usually patterns that come together quickly, often using pre-cuts. Having produced over 600 patterns in the history of VRD, there are many to choose from. The VRD on-line shop is wonderful! Shoppers will find patterns and fabrics, quilt kits to go with the patterns and often times a fantastic sale section (for the bargain hunters out there).

This year, the bloggers on the hop were given a set of five patterns to choose from. I chose to use the Ebb Tide pattern.

I decided to make a quilt to donate to Project Linus and had some cute fire truck fabric the build around. This pattern allows for the fabric to be seen in large blocks which is perfect for a child’s quilt.

Here is a progress shot. I had the blocks (simple squares and rectangles) cut out as well as most of the sashing. I kept the fire trucks front and center as the focal point. The two squares of yellow add a vibrant pop to the quilt!

The simplicity of this pattern meant it went together extremely fast. This allowed me time to practice some free motion quilting on it!

The loops and circles are free hand. The straight lines and angles were done using a ruler.

The backing probably took more time to piece than the top! It was great to use up lots of pieces from my stash and I really wanted to include as much of the firetruck yardage as I could. I have very little left of that fabric.

This simple pattern was fun to put together. It made a super cute child’s quilt and were it used with a cool large scale fabric it would look wonderful. For collectors of Kaffe Fassett or Anna Maria Horner fabrics, this would be an excellent choice. I could also see this pattern used for chopping up sections of a panel. So many options here!

Thank you to Villa Rosa Designs for inviting me to take part in this fun blog hop. I think VRD patterns are a lot of fun and look forward to seeing the quilts made by the others involved in the hop. Tricia, coordinator of the hop, has lined up an incredible selection of prizes! The generosity of the sponsors of this event is amazing.

To be included for prizes for the event be sure to leave an email address so we know how to contact you if you win. Registration for the prizes closes on Sunday, March 24th.

From the comments on this post, I will select names to win a prize or to be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing. One person will win a set of the blog hop pattern cards (see photo above). The other names will be sent to Villa Rosa Designs to be entered to win one of many prizes. If you would like to be entered in the drawing, please leave a comment telling me if you have ever used a Villa Rosa pattern card. Does your local quilt shop carry them? Have you shopped on their website? I would love to hear of your experience with this company. If you are an international reader, please do let me know. Some of the sponsors are able to ship internationally and some are not.

Again, enjoy the hop. Go check out the other bloggers and see which pattern(s) they have made. I plan to do the same!

Ebb Tide is one of Pats favorites (along with many more). Love the train theme and Project Linus is a great place to donate. Yellow was perfect addition.

Cute quilt for a child! I enjoy seeing the patterns made up in such different fabrics. One of my favorite Minnesota shops Carrie’s the VRD patterns, and I bought one last year. It helped me to see a sample made up in the shop.

I really like your backing! This gives me some great ideas about having a fun “reversible” quilt that my granddaughters will love. My LQS does not carry many VRD patterns. I have ordered several times from Villa Rosa and love them!

I have been extremely pleased with the experiences I have had with VRD. I’ve purchased patterns through their website, purchased patterns and kits through their weekly Facebook live sessions AND I even won a quilt from them through a drawing.

I have used a few VRD patterns. My local shop carries a small selection. I love shopping their website but mostly for ideas. Huge game changer for me was visiting their booth at the Houston Quilt Festival. My daughter who is very picky chose a quilt kit for me to make for her with Tim Holtz fabrics. WOW!

Clever use of focus fabric in Ebb Tide; good idea for charity quilts for our guild which currently needs some quilts for young children.

All my local quilt shops carry Villa Rose patterns and they are often giveaways during shop hops, so I have quite a collection. My favorite of these five is Gypsy, but having seen your quilt, Ebb Tide is a strong runner-up :).

Your version of Ebb Tide turned out really well! What a great pattern for kids’ quilts, or for those fat quarters you don’t want to cut into little pieces. I’m slowly growing my stash of VRD patterns, and I’m seeing them in local shops. One of our newest shops usually has kits with the patterns set out on tables throughout the shop.

I love VRD and use them often for my donation quilts. They are fast, fun and affordable. I love October Sky for quilts of valor. Presently I am using Smidge for new baby quilts for donation. My LQS does carry the cards. I also order online both physically when I buy a kit or digitally when I need it fast! I am a devoted fan!

I have never used a Villa Rosa pattern and I have never seen them before; my interest has been piqued now!

Ebb Tide is one of my favorites. I discovered Villa Rosa during COVID and was excited to learn it was local to me. I started participating in the Friday Evening shows back then and still do today.

I haven’t used a VRD pattern before but think the Gypsy pattern would make a great baby quilt

Never used a VRD quilt card pattern before, but like the premise of using ‘cards’ for patterns and some of the designs I see. BTW: I agree about using ‘donation’ quilts as an op to practice my FMQ usually, they’re small enough to feel confident in doing that!

Love the idea of using a theme set of fabrics for Ebb Tide. I have a lot of train fabric that I could use to do this. I also like the idea of donating the quilts too.

Your quilt is adorable! This pattern showcases cute fabric and it looks easy to do, too! I used a Villa Rosa pattern once in conjunction with my charity quilt guild. Simple design and simple assembly is perfect for charity projects!

What an adorable quilt! And you had the perfect way to show it off with the Legos. I’m especially interested in your ruler quilting. I have a hard time grasping how that works, but your lines look great. My local shop has some postcard style patterns, but I have to confess that I do not know who they are from. Time to take a look.

Gypsy Rose and Ebb Tide are 2 of my favorites! You are going to make 1 kids extra happy to see that firetruck quilt. Well done!! The Ebb Tide colors work well together. I think I’ve already commented but might not have included my email. Thanks for considering me for a prize!

My local quilt shop, Homespun Quilts in Astoria Oregon, does carry VRD patterns. I have purchased one which I intend to make but haven’t yet. (Can’t think of the name but it’s a sunset-type pattern.) I have other VRD patterns which I keep on hand and insert into greeting cards when I’m writing to quilty friends, especially new quilters.

Your Ebb Tide quilt is fantastic! Some child will love getting it. I have a couple of VRD patterns, but haven’t used any yet. This blog hop has inspired me to give them a try.

I have only made one Villa Rosa design before. I made the Moonstone quilt for my daughter. I bought the card from a quilt store though I can’t remember which one. I had no idea they had so many!

Your Ebb Tide quilt is adorable! I love polka dots. I haven’t made a Villa Rose pattern yet but a while ago I bought fabric and the pattern for Electron. Now I want to get it made.

Your quilt is bound to delight a child. So cute! The Ebb Tide is a great way to use large prints that I often hate to chop into pieces. And who doesn’t love a quick finish? Thanks for the inspiration.

I have made two VRD quilt patterns. Both were easy to make. I no longer have a local quilt shop. I have ordered off of their website.

I’ve used a few VRD patterns and even used a kit which created one of my favorite quilts to date (it’s on my bed now!).

I have a binder of villa rosa card patterns that I purchased at my local quilt store. I have made tablerunners and quilts at our quilt store the past few years at quilt class using Villa Rosa card patterns. I have also shopped at the Villa Rosa Design store online. The store was excellent at filling my order. I got a quilt kit from them in december using a villa rosa patterns called “Happy Thoughts”.
