2024 SAHRR – Round 3

Another Monday rolled around and this meant a new prompt for the 2024 Stay At Home Round Robin (SAHRR). Hosted by a group of bloggers, headed up by Gail, this annual round robin is a great way to push myself creatively. The blogger for the week suggests a block or an idea and we interpret it as we feel works with our quilt.

This week’s blogging host is Emily of The Darling Dogwood. Her only specification was to incorporate triangles in this round. This clicked with me right away. After last week’s round (use only two colors) I knew I wanted to incorporate some of the black and white charm squares I have set aside for this project.

These leftover charm squares already have a 1 1/2 inch strip of blue already attached to them. I decided to cut triangles from the side where the blue meets the charm square.

I cut a 2 1/2″ triangle from each of these. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get two triangles from each one so I am saving the remaining pieces for another round (hopefully).

I wanted an equal size, white triangle in between each of the blue/black units. However, I didn’t really realize by doing this, I would be chopping off the points when I attached something to the top of this row. I should have made the white triangles larger so the points of the print charms would be encapsulated by the white and thus the points would be preserved. I am leaving it as is and not going to worry about it. Let’s all pretend I meant for it to be this way, ok?

I have some ideas for the next round but of course, I am waiting to see what the prompt is. I hope I can work within the prompt and the idea I am playing with. Currently this measures 15″ x 17″ which is great. Three more rounds should keep this to a nice wall hanging size.

Want to know one of the toughest parts about this event, for me anyway? It is waiting until the following Monday! Now that I sat and worked on it this morning, I don’t want to stop but I have to. Patience is a virtue, so they say. I need to work on that a little. Haha.

While I wait for next Monday’s prompt, I will go back to this project. I have a blog hop coming up in March and yesterday I spent some time piecing a backing for the quilt. It is so cute! Can’t wait to share this one with you all.

Fabulous choice, especially the design choice of keeping the points in their beauty. Those are difficult triangles to make for no good reason, but the graphic quality is enhanced by this choice. It is hard to wait! I was thinking I might work on a second but that would be too ambitious this year!

If it makes you feel any better, I lopped off the points on my triangles too, and I’m leaving them. Done is done, and from a distance, you can’t really tell. I like how you are using left overs for your quilt, and you are using them well! It makes me smile that you anticipate next week so eagerly – that makes it all worthwhile!

I do look forward to it. Plus as soon as I did the triangles, I was playing with other leftover pieces. I came up with an arrangement I want to use but I think I need to wait and see what else is happening. So, wait I will!

I’ve never done one of these prompts. I have projects in my head I’ve yet to get to. Perhaps someday. Shall be interesting to see the end result.

I think it is fun to do one now and then. I don’t normally do the big quilt alongs where they do a block of the month all year long. But this one is 7 weeks and I like the group of quilters that participates. Try it sometime! It brings a different creativity because of the others, the prompts, etc.

These blocks were so simple they took no time at all. Hoping to add a burst of blue to the little quilt this week.
Today is sunny and cold out – since it is going to be dry, I need to get outside! Have a great weekend Yvonne!

Bernie, I love the modern way you do this time. Hey, why not jsing the seemripper and cut them off more? How is telling us, that we have triangles in one piece to show?
I washed fabric today to make triangles in a special way, unfortunately toooo much office work and absolutly no time, only the nightsโ€ฆ but I need some sleep.
Yes yes yesโ€ฆ it makes so mich fun and the first thing Monday morning was checking the mails. These are the only weeks I love Mondays!!!!

Eva, When I was working full-time, I had so little time for hobbies. There was always a chore, something to be done around the garden, shopping etc. I admire your ability to fit it in when you can. I look forward to seeing your progress when you can spend some time on the quilt – Have a lovely weekend.

That blue you’re using is so striking with the black and white, Bernie! I like how your triangles turned out – they remind me of mountains. You’re doing a great job of using the pieces and parts from an old project, too!

Thank you! They will be mountains without sharp peaks! More of a platform on top…. It is fun though and I think the little quilt is coming along well. Have a great weekend Diann.

I like how you are inspired by both the prompt and your leftover quilt pieces. This is a fabulously modern work. I think you should call your newly invented blocks Bernieโ€™s Blunted Triangles (BBTs for short). They will become the new block and books will be written about how to make them.

BBT’s. Hahaha. I am please with your suggestion!
So far, I think I am happy with the way this is looking. The blue/black/white scraps have been sitting in a bag for at least five years. When I finished that quilt and had these bits remaining, I knew I wanted to use them together. Now is the time!

I love these triangles! I also really like your colors; the bright blue with black and white looks great! (And with a firetruck enthusiast in my house, I can’t help but admire your firetrucks too!)

Hi Emily – we haven’t ‘talked’ in such a long time. I bet your little guy is growing like crazy. Maybe 1st grade??
The firetruck fabric was a piece I got from my sister. It is so cute. Hope you are all doing well!
