SAHRR Round 6

Woohoo – The final round of the Stay at Home Round Robin is finished and I have a quilt top! This was a super fun event for me and I am so happy Gail thought of this during early Covid days and continued it with a growing popularity.

Gail chose the block for the last round and it is pinwheels. Without any sort of plan, I separated any remaining HST’s from that stack of old prepared bits I have been trying to use up. Then I made pinwheels with them.

After this set of pinwheels I also made some with red/polka dot HST’s. Each set of pinwheel blocks finished at different sizes. I decided the green and blue pinwheels were too small, the blue and polka dot were too big but, of course, the red and polka dot were……………… Just Right! Next I set aside the tiny green/blue version – they will be used elsewhere because they are super cute. The blue pinwheels were trimmed down to 4 1/2″ to match the red version. While I do have quite a bit of the batiks remaining from that previous project, I used each and every HST I had already made. That is a big win for me!

To add length, but not width, I made a top and bottom border with the pinwheels.

The finished top! Next up for this project is to give it a solid pressing and baste it. I prepared the backing already. The width is 46″ so I had to add two narrow strips to my backing to have a wide enough piece.

This was a very fun project – one I learned a lot from. I will be back before the March 13th deadline with a finished quilt!!

For now, linking up with Oh Scrap and Quilting Gail.

Just in case you didn’t know, March 1st was National Pig Day (don’t worry, I didn’t know either). But you can bet Julia knew. 🙂

Hi Pamela – Polka dots are always cheerful, right? I have a large piece of the dotted fabric leftover so I will be able to use them again. Have a great Monday!

Oh, look at those little piggies! So fun! And so is your SAHRR, Bernie. I really like that pretty green you’re using in that last border. Glad the pinwheels worked out, too. Hope I get a chance to work on mine this week!

Diann you have a very good reason for not sewing a lot this week. Hope your mom continues to heal. I am sure she is grateful for your help and support.

It’s always great when you can use something that is just sitting around! I know I”ve commented on your colors before, but will again. they are just so vivid and right for the project!

Thank you Claire. The round robin was a good way to use these crazy colors – I couldn’t decide how to use them so having the guidelines each week gave me suggestions and that was a great help. I’m very happy to have used this big stack of HST’s!

      Hello Eva –

I live near the coast so we have lots of grey rainy weather here as well. Those make good days for sewing!
I have enjoyed seeing your round robin progress over at Wendy’s blog. I think you are doing really well. Everyone’s project is totally different which makes this event so much fun. Take care!

Thank you! Hope I get it sandwiched today – that is my least favorite part of making a quilt. Well, that and deciding how to quilt it. No time for procrastinating tho – It is a busy quilt top which is making me think maybe the quilting should be very simple. Decisions, decisions…..

Julia and her piglets – they are so much fun to see. We are traveling down there in a few weeks and that is on my list – visit the swine barns! Have a great day Brenda. 🙂

Thank you! Now to decide how to quilt this – so any weird shapes and colors. I am not at all sure how to approach it.
      Have a nice week Yvonne!

Love the piggy pictures!! Is she going to be a veterinarian or a rancher with a critter farm??? Love her adventures; such a bright and energetic inspiration of a young woman!

Your Round Robin quilt is very adventurous! So fun to take an Inspiration and go round! Great job.

      Hi Dawn –
Julia would prefer to work on a ranch or with a breeder. She doesn’t have any interest in continuing to grad school or a vet program. She graduates in June so we are very excited and hoping she can find a job up here in WA and live closer to us. Fingers crossed!

Yes, using the HST’s has been great! The next hurdle is deciding how to quilt it. Hmmm…. Maybe that should have been dictated by the SAHRR team. I can’t decide! There are so many shapes and colors. It is a rather wild quilt top. Any suggestions??

Thank you! I also love the green – almost wish I had used more of it as I made each round. It looks good though. Today I got it basted and just started to do some quilting. 🙂

Hi there – Quilting has commenced!! Amazing how much progress can be made when I stay focused on one project at a time. Today won’t be loads of time for sewing – dentist appt (ugh) and volunteer time at the library (fun!). Have a great day Kathleen.
