Quick Check In & an Interview

Not a whole lot of sewing is happening for me – mostly because I am about 800 miles away from my sewing room! My husband and I and Julia all drove up to Washington state to visit my son and his family. We have not seen them since early October. What a treat to be with all of them. Both girls will have a birthday this month so it seemed like a great time to visit.

The girls are just a delight. H is nearly four years old. She is very imaginative and loves to make up games to play. Lots of pretend play as well as drawing and making things. She is working on using scissors and spent quite a bit of time this afternoon cutting confetti which we promised she could toss in the air on her birthday this weekend.

The baby, A, is nearly one! She is trying to walk and has taken two or three steps at a time. When we first got here she was a bit shy, having been with only her parents for months on end with the quarantine keeping everyone at home. It didn’t take too long for her to warm up though and we are good buddies now. Her personality is delightfully easy going.

My two favorite little girls.

Here are a few pictures from our first few days here.

This neighborhood is lush and heavily wooded.

We have gone on walks in the neighborhood each day.

Today H made donuts with Grandpa.

Grandpa asked H to be careful and not lick her fingers while icing the donuts. She was pretty darn happy when he told her the icing was finished and she could lick her sticky, sweet fingers.

I feel so very fortunate to be with them. I know many of you have been separated from your kids and grand children for way too long and miss them. I hope you are able to enjoy them in person before too long.

I also want to share that I did an interview with Leanne from Devoted Quilter for her “Let’s Get to Know” series. I very much enjoyed the previous two interviews she posted, one with Sarah Craig, Confessions of a Fabric Addict and the other with Holly Ann Knight of String and Story. If you’d like to read it and get to know a bit more about me, click here. It is a lot of fun to learn more about the quilters we all associate with.

That is it for now. Wishing all of you a wonderful day.

What a great way to start my day, seeing you two enjoying your granddaughters! Those smiles say it all (and who doesn’t like to lick their fingers after baking/cooking). Those doughnuts look delicious! Enjoy your time with your family, Bernie!

That picture at the top made my heart happy! You all look so glad to be together. And yum, donuts! I hope you have a wonderful time and two happy birthdays. (I think A looks like you, even through that chubby little face.) Enjoy, Bernie!

Oh Bernie! those girls are just the cutest! Every picture was sweeter than the last. Love the three of you, but I have to say, the picture of H licking her fingers is frame-worthy. So glad you are able to love on them in person!

I just read your interview and I also learned how to quilt twice. I took a class in the late 80s when it was all templates and hand stitching. Not fun. Years later my mom showed me how to use a rotary cutter and machine piece, and that’s when I fell in love with quilting. I have wonderful memories of shopping for fabric with my mom to sew our clothes. We had a great local store that we adored. I can only imagine what your days were like growing up. Lots of eye candy!

What a wonderful visit! I adore that first photo of you with your two littles. You look like Joy Epitomized! “Learning to use scissors” reminded me of when my oldest son was about that age and scissors were a new delight. He “practiced” scissors on all sorts of things like pillow fringe, etc… Good times! ;-). And now I’m popping over to read your interview with Leeanne!

Enjoy your time there, and Happy birthday wishes to H!

I really liked reading your interview, and I think it’s great you still have your first quilt. I’ll look forward to seeing you work on repairing it when the time is right. πŸ™‚

I enjoyed your interview with Leanne. So glad you are getting a visit in with family. Being newly vaccinated, we’re planning on having a daughter and her family visit for Easter. Can’t wait, even if we still use masks.

I bet you are so excited Kathryn. This has been such a weird time not being able to see family. I haven’t gotten the vaccine yet. I am hoping it is sooner than later though. Lots of people I am anxious to see!!! Enjoy your time with your daughter. πŸ™‚

Hi Bernie! LOVE that you got to visit your son but even more those two littles!! The pictures are so fabulous and joyful – I know it’s even better in person. Those smiles of delight are real and those warm memories will hold you for a bit until this is all behind us for good. Thanks for much for sharing all this love with us. It warms my heart . . . but not as much as it does yours! ~smile~ Roseanne

It has been such a nice visit so far. We are all having a blast just being together. So are you purging and clearing stuff out before your move? Lots of work! I do love clearing out the excess from time to time though.
