What??? An Actual Finish?

Can it be? A quilt? Yes, I actually finished a quilt!! It was in December, 2021 that I last finished a quilt. Crazy times around our house the last six months!

A couple of weeks ago I saw this crib on Facebook Marketplace for $50. It seemed like a good deal as it transitions to a toddler bed as well. My two year old grand daughter is still in a crib but I suspect she will soon be changing over to a toddler bed. This should work for sleepovers for quite sometime.

The room that the girls sleep in is pink, like Pepto Bismol pink. If I didn’t dislike painting so much I would repaint it. But the girls like the pink and I don’t like painting so it will stay this way for a bit. I had some pink solid from Art Gallery Fabric and quickly made a fitted sheet for the mattress. This was both a super easy and fun project that I made with this tutorial by See Kate Sew.

I also had a quilt top ready to go that I made wayyy back in May of 2020. I used a pattern by Meadow Mist Designs called Pike’s Peak.

My version looks very different from the example on the pattern cover. But that is the joy of each interpretation of a pattern. The fabric choices often make it completely unique.

The quilting is very simple. Small cross hatch done on the diagonal completes the center block. Then a straight line every two inches for the open gray spaces. These lines were marked with a Hera marker and took no time at all to stitch. Easy peasy. I figured if this was to be used by a toddler, nothing fancier then that was warranted.

It is backed with a piece of Alison Glass fabric and bound with a tonal fabric from Art Gallery Fabric.

It looks great in the girls’ room. When I showed A her new bed at Grammy’s house she was quite happy and said “cozy, cozy bed”. She loves her bed at home and I think she will be happy in this one too.

We set up Julia’s old twin bed from years ago. My husband made the headboard and footboard so we stored it for the last 12 years or so. I am happy to have it set up for H now. She chose the quilt for her bed. (This quilt was gifted to me from a friend when we moved. It is a pretty quilt with all Kaffe Fassett fabrics and backed in soft minky.) When H saw it, she was taken with it and asked if it could be on her bed. So now we have beds set up for both girls!

My sewing room continues to improve. Last week Ray spent a day helping me organize it. He got the sewing desk put together for me.

He also got a bed set up in the room for guests. Of course as soon as the bed was set up, I was laying projects on it and now it is covered 1/2 way with my projects. He laughed when he saw how fast that happened! But at least we have a queen bed for guests if needed.

I am working on binding another quilt today. Hard to believe but I have another finish and will share it soon. Back soon with pictures – this one is really looking nice.

Sharing to my favorite link ups. Please take a look at the top of the page for details!

And your guest bedroom looks welcoming with the perfect quilt. Thank you for sharing your progress in your new home.

Well the guest bed is in the sewing room and it looks very different now! It is covered in several projects I have in process! But at least it is there and I can clear it off if needed! Thank you Judy!

You got me with Art Gallery fabric — your granddaughter will feel like a princess when she’s tucked between the quilt and sheet! I loved staying with my grandparents, so I know how special this room is. One of my grandma’s loved pink, so the room reminds me of her bedroom. (Like you, I hate to paint so I have two guest rooms waiting to be done.) It wonderful to see your home come together. I know how wonderful that feels!

I know you get it Tracie! We are so happy to see all of this come together – after months of working toward it. As for pink – wow, this is soooo pink. When the sun comes through on that side of the house – there is a weird pink glow out into the hallway. It is a little much!

very nice to have guest rooms set up – if I had a large house I would too. But people need to be satisfied with an air mattress in our little house which is why we rarely have anyone stay over!

We are fortunate to have the room available. I have always had a guest bed in the sewing room though. My family is so large and I like having the bed in there – both as a place to hold my projects and then to be cleared off and used for guests!!

I like your priorities! Bedroom for sleepovers, and the sewing room! Things are coming along, and it’s looking great!

Thank you Wendy. Now I need to schedule time to have those sleepovers!! They have various activities scheduled the next two weeks but soon. Luckily, they love being here. When I was little I didn’t like sleepovers – I ALWAYS wanted to go home at bedtime. My poor parents…

What fun to see the progress! I love that crib quilt, and so much fun that H picked that gorgeous quilt with minky for her bed. I laughed out loud about the guest room bed being covered with projects already. Quilting is an exercise in taking up as much space as possible. My husband cleared the guest room bed in my office, thinking it might wind up downstairs during the ankle recuperation….today I will attack one pile before I go downstairs! Love seeing you settle in to your new place.

Oh my gosh – how can I not cover up that huge, flat surface (the bed) – It is the perfect place for all the work in process. Right? Hope you are feeling a bit better each day!!

Hi Bernie! Aww, your house is becoming your home. A special place for the girls with a pretty quilt finish, a comfy bed for visitors. Your sewing space looks fab – that big window is to die for, I think! I would be dreamily looking out of it instead of sewing. It’s so nice to see an update from you! Happy Tuesday! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you Roseanne. The window is pretty darn nice. We have a plethora of birds and bunnies out there which are both a lot of fun to watch. People keep telling me the owls will grab the bunnies but (luckily) I haven’t actually seen anything to say this is happening. Ugh. In CA we had jackrabbits which were ugly – but here we have normal looking bunnies and they are so cute. Funny how it makes such a difference. 😉

This girl loves her bed(s). She is so funny. When she is tired she wants her bed – I remember having trouble getting the kids to bed but not this one. 🙂

Oh, what a fantastic home that you can have a guest room set up AND a room set up for the girls. I love that you were able to finish a quilt so that both of them have a handmade quilt from you ready to use when they are visiting. It does look like a cozy, cozy bed!

Thanks much! I am just happy to start finishing up all of these unfinished quilt tops. Not to mention 1/2 assembled quilt tops – I just stitched the binding on one which I need to share. Plus I put borders on a top and it is ready to baste. Feels great! Hope you guys are doing well and enjoying the summer.

Hi there, We are settling in well. Long overdue considering how long ago we began our mission to move up here. Summer is strange so far because we haven’t gotten above 70 degrees yet. All sorts of stuff to get used to. Hope you are doing well Cindy.

Bernie, I am loving seeing you settle into your new home, and I am especially loving all the green out your windows. That truly is something you can’t put a pricetag on, right? As I gaze out my own green-filled sewing room windows. I have Cheryl’s Pike’s Peak pattern too and oddly enough just yesterday I was thinking I should just make that in X pile of fabric – of which there are three on my counter – because it is such a cool design.

It is a fun pattern and you would whip it out in no time at all! Plus the amazing quilting you could do in all that negative space. We do love the green – Everyone says the lawn will dry out when the rain slows down but that hasn’t happened yet so we aren’t overly concerned. Take care Sandra.

So glad you’re stitching again, Bernie! The girls’ room looks amazing and I’m sure it will be a great place for them to play. (And maybe nap.) And the sewing room looks great, too! The bed is so tempting to try out designs and pile fabrics. Mine would be covered in minutes! Let’s talk soon!
