SAHRR Round 3

I was happy to see that Wendy (Pieceful Thoughts) chose stars (of any sort) for round three. Her example was the friendship star and I decided to go with that block. Friendship stars are sweet and very simple to make.

Isn’t this adorable?

Remember I am using blocks from a tossed aside project. Have to say, I am enjoying having these forgotten HST’s to work with. It is so much easier to cut tiny HST’s from oversized blocks. The bits for this block were cut at 1 1/4″ so they finish at 3/4″. For me, that is very tiny! The finished friendship star measures 2 1/4″.

Before adding the round of stars, I first stitched a border of turquoise to the quilt. I am trying to grow this quilt and will (probably?) keep putting borders on between the pieced borders. With this round of stars the quilt measures 30″ square. There are four more rounds to go.

I wanted the stars to be set into a darker blue. I also decided not to put very many on with this round. The quilt needed to be calmed down a bit. The navy blue border with just a few stars was the ticket. So this round is actually done with a couple of days to spare! Now to wait until Monday to see what comes next.

This popped up on Instagram a few days ago and it sure made me laugh. Likely more than a few of you can relate, right?

Linking up with Pieceful Thoughts today. Hop over there and see lots of interpretations of the SAHRR quilts. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

I really like what you’ve done this week – those little stars just shine in that dark blue border! Fun, fun, fun! That meme made me laugh out loud – thanks!

I always respond “what are you planning to make” because he never cooks and never suggests anything! so he gets whatever I make and better not complain LOL
    Your block looks good

Well that sounds fair to me! I appreciate how Ray knows his way around the kitchen. He had lived alone for a long while before we married so he could cook. Yahoo!

Thank you! I keep looking at the two borders with only one star on them and it annoys me that they are directly under one another. So I am going to take one border off and flip it. I think that will look better. Crossing fingers….

Hi Elana! How are you? We haven’t ‘chatted’ in a long time. I love seeing your pictures on Facebook though.
Little pieces aren’t my favorite and I wouldn’t want to make a whole quilt (like those amazing postage stamp quilts with 1″ finished squares.) It would make me crazy.
But when making just a few blocks, it is fun and the blocks are extra cute!

Your tiny stars dancing around the center are just so fun, Bernie! I love how you did that! You’ve really gotten off to a great start using up those leftovers. The cartoon made me laugh! “What’s for dinner (or lunch)?” is often our first conversation of the day, lol!

Hahahaha – Ray and I have that discussion all the time. We do love food! Not always the prep part but the eating part. However about once a week, we both are tired of cooking and just eat ‘whatever’ – cereal, eggs, leftovers.
Are you looking forward to the next round? I am!

Your stars are so cute! I used some that I made months ago that finished at 3 inches or so, and I remember having a hard time making them. I can’t imagine how you managed those tiny pieces!

Thank you – Piecing with small bits is sort of tedious and even with a leader, I had to be careful not to let the fabric get sucked down into the needle plate. Not something I want to do all the time, that’s for sure. But it worked out for this. Looking forward to finding out about the next round!

It is fun to have a starting point with the HSTs already for you to incorporate. I love these stars and the whimsical border you made! My blocks are tiny, too, this go around. Must be why I am reading blogs and not sewing. Better get moving to stay on track!

Ah, procrastination! Happens to me all the time.
I played with the hourglass blocks a bit today and am trying to come up with an idea of how to use them. Hmmm. Not feeling terribly inspired so maybe I will try again tomorrow.

Thank you! I was playing around with the hourglass blocks and am realizing that I still have tons of pieces from the abandoned project. This round robin won’t consume as much as I had thought. Looks like there will be more made with bright batiks and this polkadot fabric!!

HA – I made enough for two days. Thanks for the giggle, Bernie. I love your little stars. They are bright and happy on their own and they really POP on that darker blue background. Great job! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
