2022 Positivity Quilt Along Link Up

Good morning all! Hope you are having a lovely weekend. Believe it or not, it is time to link up a progress shot of your 2022 Positivity Quilt. This might mean sharing a couple of blocks with us. Or maybe you have actually stitched a few rows together. Maybe, like me, you are still in the earliest stages and have been cutting your pieces out. Wherever you might be, let us enjoy your progress so far.

I started cutting blocks for mine. Before leaving California, my friend Stephanie gave me a stack of leftover fabric from a western themed quilt she made. This line of fabric is called Dreamcatcher and was made by Whistler Studios . It is not my usual style fabric but this quilt is not for me. Being destined for Mercy Hospital, there is no way of knowing who will receive it. With Mercyful Quilts, the family of the patient chooses the quilt and oftentimes, they choose one that is meaningful to their relationship with the person they are saying goodbye to. Thus it is good to have all sorts of choices. A variety of colors, styles, and themes are advantageous. So this quilt will have a strong Native American, western vibe to it. Some of the fabric is directional and I am hoping this doesn’t create issues as I assemble the blocks. That remains to be seen.

As I was cutting the pieces and getting excited to start assembling blocks, my practical side grabbed hold and told me to finish up last year’s quilt first. Most of the top was done and it didn’t make sense to move on until I got this completed. I set the fabric aside and pulled out last year’s plus quilt. I didn’t make more blocks. Instead, I went with what I had completed. To increase the size, I added a yellow border. Then got it basted and ready for quilting. On Friday I began quilting it. It feels so much better to work in a more orderly fashion. My husband will be the first to tell you I often flit from one thing to another which is, for the most part, unproductive. Once this quilt is done, I will start sewing blocks for the next one.

So this is where I am at for now. How about you? Have you got lots of blocks assembled? Maybe your quilt top is even finished. Share it with us here. One of the best parts of a quilt along is the camaraderie of sewing together. Also, since we are making the same pattern, it is so cool to see it in any number of fabric choices. I look forward to seeing all of them. Link up is open until Saturday, July 2, 2022. Thanks for joining in and sewing for Mercyful Quilts!

Thanks!! I am quilting along to get last year’s project done so I can move forward to the next one. I do think the teal, black and mustard colors will make a great quilt top. Hope so anyway!

Me too my friend. Life is back to normal – today we have a quick heatwave moving through our area so it is toasty today and tomorrow. Then back to cooler coastal weather. Hope your weekend was a nice one!

Hey Danielle! I cannot believe you already made two tops with Preeti’s pattern. I am going to take a few minutes and go read some of your posts. I think your blog might be new to me. Thank you for participating Danielle!

Great job on both quilts. I like finishing a quilt all the way, although sometimes that doesn’t happen. I have lots of projects in waiting rather than projects in process – unless they are something like RSC or a project from a class. Anyway, good luck finishing the quilting and getting on to this years. I may just send one of my already made quilts this year…depends on when I really get moving. Am able to get around a lot better on one crutch and sometimes none in a small space…progress.

Thank you Kathleen. If you decide to donate a quilt you have available, we will be thrilled. You have had such a setback this year and I am happy to hear you are doing better and better. Keep that crutch nearby!! No need to hamper the healing you are working on. Take care,B.

Sometimes I worry that I’m too structured and methodical in my approach. I’m so glad the world is made up of people with a way array of personalities and differences, it makes things so much more interesting. 🙂 Looks like you have made great progress and I expect we’ll be seeing this finished up soon!

Well, I would say that what works for one person often does not work for the next. We each have our style and it is only if we are dissatisfied or uncomfortable with our choices that we might look at changing. For me, I am frustrated with having too many unfinished projects. I feel so much better now that I am trying to put some order to my process. Maybe if you and I combined our styles, we would come up with something great! Hahaha.

Hi Bernie! Well . . . I don’t quite have a block or even some pieces yet. But soon! I have the fabrics in-house and they are going to be just perfect for Positivity2. After a Crazy with a capital “C” weekend, I need the calmness that sewing and cutting offer. Yippee to nearing a finish on the original Positivity quilt . . . it remains to be seen if Positivity2 outshines the first one. Either way, it is a wonderful charity. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you Roseanne. I love the fabrics you selected for your project. I totally get it when you’ve been super busy and just want some time to sew and have that calm time to yourself. It is sort of therapeutic. As with your previous donations, we are grateful for your creativity and your generosity. Thank you so much!!!
