March Monthly Goal

March is going to be an exciting month! Today my sweet grand daughter is celebrating her 3rd birthday! Then later this coming week, her little sister will make her entrance to this world of ours! My daughter in law is scheduled for a C-Section on Thursday assuming the labor and delivery department isn’t overwhelmed with other babies arriving that day. I am so excited to see this baby and to learn her name. My son and his wife like to know the gender ahead of time and they save the name to be announced when the baby arrives. However I admit to being a little bit pesty and ask all the time what her name will be. They secretly roll their eyes and don’t tell me. So, a few more days and I will see pictures and know her name! Woo Hoo!

Pin basting is not my favorite task.

In quilting related news however, I do have a goal for this month. The stack of Mercyful quilts over at Mercy Hospital is terribly low at the moment so I am sewing madly, trying to get one quilted and finished for them. (If you aren’t familiar with Mercyful Quilts, please click here and read more about this wonderful program.) I had this top folded up and waiting to be finished. I had made it some time ago as part of a blog hop celebrating the release of Modern Plus Quilts by Paige Alexander and Cheryl Brickey. But I never finished it.

I started quilting it yesterday (after a long migraine siege this week). This morning I finished a series of straight lines through the patchwork in a coral/pink thread. Now I am pondering the wide brown and green stripes. I haven’t decided what to do there.

Finishing this quilt is my monthly goal for Patty’s link up at Elm Street Quilts. I hope to get it finished up this week so they will have another quilt on the shelf. If anyone has a lap size quilt that needs a home, I would love to bring it to Mercy Hospital. Just remember, no juvenile fabrics as they treat only adults. That is really the main stipulation.

Last, but certainly not least, would you like to see the cutest little girl ever? She got her first haircut this morning and she now looks like she is ready for kindergarten (but she is only three!) The first haircut seems to makes the child age a couple of years. She looks much more a little girl and less a toddler. Happy birthday sweet girl!

Have you set a goal for this month? Let me know! I will be back in a bit to share the news of my second grand baby! Can’t wait!!

What a fun month for you! Happy Birthday, sweet H! Your haircut is adorable. And is that an outfit from Grammy? Bernie, with the girls’ birthdays so close together, you might be able to celebrate with them in the coming years.

I love the colors of your Merciful quilt. So calming. I’m glad you feel up to sewing again.

Thank you Janine. Yes, it would be so fun to celebrate birthdays with both girls someday!! I can’t wait to see both girls in April.
I am loving this quilt. I got lots more quilted this afternoon. It is turning out so pretty. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Bernie! How, oh how, can she be three already?!! And about to be a big sister – how fab is that. You’ll be holding, kissing and spoiling that new baby any minute now. We are about to have another great-nephew to enjoy as well. Due originally on the 20th but she may be induced on the 17th now instead. Either way, we’ll be enjoying him soon! Congrats on the new arrival and good luck with your OMG project. ~smile~ Roseanne

Bernie, your granddaughter is precious, love her new haircut, yes she looks five! My great granddaughters, twins, are three years old today, March 7 as well. I made them each a stuffed 14” mouse doll “SQUEEK “ and each a handmade English paper pieced doll quilt. What fun!! Also wanted to THANK YOU for sharing the tree pattern for the donation quilts for victims of fires in Australia. I made six blocks and shipped them off mid February. Loved the pattern. Thank you for the information on Mercyful Quilts. I have a lap quilt in process for this heartwarming effort. Best you for all you do.

Oh my gosh, what a fun coincidence – more March 7th girls. I bet they loved their birthday gifts from you. Do you get to see them much or do they live far away? I hope they are close by. My grand daughter lives across the country from me so I only see her a couple of times each year.
I would love to see a Mercyful quilt from you!! I am so excited. Thank you Dawn. Let me know when you need mailing information.
      Happy Sunday!!!

What a sweet picture! She looks just adorable in that new haircut. Really, all of these grandkids are growing so fast! It won’t be long before you get to cuddle another sweetie, too. What a great time for you. Also, I’m sure your quilt will be much appreciated. I have a couple almost ready for you, just need to finish a few more lines and bind them up. Fingers crossed that your new granddaughter makes a safe and easy entrance!

Oh my gosh Mari – you are so right. They are growing up so fast. And of course when the baby arrives, H will look even older in comparison. She seems excited about the baby so it will be interesting to see how this goes.
I would love another Mercyful quilt from you. Thank you so much!!

I’m working on completing a Faux Chenille vest that was started over 11 years ago (very embarrassed to admit that). It will be a nice addition to my wardrobe! And I have a strip quilt in the works that will be finished next. I’ll dedicate it to Mercy Hospital’s quilt stash!

Faux Chenille? I don’t know what that means? Are you knitting it?
I will look forward to a strip quilt from you whenever you get to it.
      Thank you so much!!

I should be able to get most of the quilting done today. Yesterday was productive and I got further than I thought I would.
Have a great day – hope your head is being cooperative!

I’m so excited for you! I look forward to learning the name too, and what a happy day that will be.
Little H does look so grownup with that pretty haircut. Our Delaney cut bangs for herself a couple months ago (omg!), so our daughter took her to the hairdresser to even it up, and now she looks adorable!
Your Mercy quilt colors are great! I am joining the blog hop for Paula Budinger and needed a charity to donate my quilt, so Mercy it is. 🙂

Oh no!! She cut her own hair! That must have been hysterical – Well, I am sure the hairdresser was able to design around it!
Thank you for promising your Paula B quilt to Mercy. That is wonderful and I look forward to it! I am joining in as well tho it will be a challenge since I will be gone for most of April. Yikes!

Our first grandchild was born in September and the name was a secret so my husband and I spent months trying to figure it out- not even close!!! Arden Leigh – what a joy she is !!!!!!!! I had no idea just how wonderful being a Nana could possibly be 🙂
Congratulations to you. Your other grand is just adorable!!!
And I love that quilt you’re making.

I am so sorry about the migraine, Bernie.
I can hardly believe that H is not the baby anymore. She is going to be a big sister. All your family is so beautiful (not to mention the handsome ones) I am looking forward to the pictures. A big bearded man tenderly and lovingly holding a little baby – such a sweet image!!! See, I can almost picture them 🙂

How exciting! Happy birthday to your 3-year-old, and congratulations on the Baby Sister Who Must Not Be Named… If I was the grandma in this situation, I would tease my son by calling her Baby Voldemort in order to get him to tell me her real name. But that’s because my son would think it was funny — would NOT do that if my son didn’t share my sense of humor! I wonder, since you wrote this post a few days ago — maybe she’s here already and her name has finally been announced???

Hi Rebecca – Hahaha, My son has a great sense of humor and has been calling her all sorts of things (cute monikers only of course). Her older sister wanted to name her Ferdinand for a while but thankfully, that has been forgotten. She will arrive tomorrow by scheduled c-section so I am getting pretty excited.
