Last week turned out to be a busy one and while I did make the first blocks for the 2024 Stay At Home Round Robin, I never had a minute to write a post. So, let’s catch up!
For the first week, Wendy of PiecefulThoughts, chose signature blocks. I was pleased with the choice because they make a nice graphic border and are simple to make. So, thank you Wendy!
I made eight of the signature blocks without a real plan as to how I would use them. At that point, I set them aside to wait and see what Round 2 would bring.
Anja of AnjaQuilts is the host for week two. She surprised all of us with a very simple instruction. We are to do as we please but use only two colors. My vision came easily. I decided to use black and white, include the signature blocks and finish off the first border.
The signature blocks are arranged in a pattern reminiscent of the zig zag on Charlie Brown’s t-shirt. They follow around the corner of the block and each side finishes with either black or white. The two remaining sides are bordered in black. At this point the block measures 15 inches which is great. I hope to combine the next two weeks into one border as well because I keep this to about 20″ square. I plan to hang it on the wall in my sewing room. Within the next round or two, more of the royal blue will be included.
I will be linking to AnjaQuilts for this week’s link up. One thing I love about this SAHRR is the unique interpretations of the weekly prompt. Looking at all of the projects linked up, one really wouldn’t think they have much in common yet we are all following the same prompts each week. To see the variety of SAHRR projects, click here.
Your quilt looks great! There’s just something about graphic black and white quilts with a shot of color! This will be a really fun addition to your quilt room!
Thanks! I agree – black and white with a burst of (almost any) color is a fun plan. I have done a couple of quilts with this as the basis and liked each of them. So, now to wait till Monday!!
That’s so fun, Bernie! I like the movement around your center with the black and white continuing on from the signature blocks. Great way to combine the two prompts!
Thanks Diann. Combining them is somewhat necessary if the quilt is to be kept small. Like yours, I don’t want this to be very big. The next two prompts will hopefully work together too. We will see!
I love the punch of bold color in your quilt as well as the bold design. Perfect for your wall. Yay for black and white! 😉
Thank you! This first set of prompts was easy. I am excited to see what comes next. I want to use some of the black and white charm squares I had left over from the project. I also have quite a bit of the solid blue. Hopefully these will be mixed into week three somehow.
Yeah, well we do have the freedom to change it up if we want to. The quilt police will not arrest us. Charm squares should work in somewhere, I think.
Love the colors you’re using. Very striking.
Thank you! So far, so good. This is such a fun event. 🙂
It’s looking great, Bernie!! It will be perfect for hanging in your sewing room!
Thanks Brenda!
Nicely done Bernie! Lol on Charlie Brown’s t-shirt. 😀
That zig zag will always make me think of Charlie Brown. 🙂
I love how this is asymmetrical, Bernie! The black and white is so graphic it makes those pops of blue really shine.
The black and white border is just perfect. Never thought to do a plain border or two…love it!
Thanks Kathleen! I am eager to figure out how to use some triangles for the third round.
That is very striking, Bernie! So graphic, and I love the blue. Isn’t it funny how these all look so different with the same set of prompts? We’re all creative in different ways!
For sure – this is why I enjoy QAL’s. Even when it is a traditional event, I love to see everyone’s interpretation of the same pattern with their own fabrics and colors.
